It is easy to take where you live for granted. Hollywood portrays the United States as New York, California, and maybe a state or two in between. If you live anywhere else in the states, it is easy to feel like you live in a lame, nowhere state that no one cares about. This is especially true of Utah. Ah, Utah, the butt of polygamous jokes everywhere. It is unfortunate that Utah seems to have a bad reputation… if Utah has a reputation at all. Utah is a beautiful state. Magnificent mountains surround you from almost every point in the state, capped with what is known as the greatest snow on Earth. So hey! At least our precipitation has a good reputation. Contrary to what you might think, there are plenty of things to do in Utah. Layton, Utah—somewhere even fewer people have heard of—is no exception. If you are in the Layton area, don’t get discouraged! There are a ton of fun options for you.
Because of those glorious mountains I mentioned earlier, there are some beautiful hikes in the Layton area. One of my personal favorites is the Adams Canyon Trail. This trail winds into the canyon. It is shaded by tall trees and much of the trail follows the water. The proximity to water cools the air down, so the hike is not as hot as it could be, nor as hot as some of the other trails in the area. At the end of a trail is a gorgeous waterfall. Make the 3.4 mile hike with your family or pets and enjoy the gorgeous views!
SeaQuest Interactive Aquarium
Another great family activity is nestled into the bottom floor of the Layton Hills Mall. Although this is an unsuspecting place for an aquarium, SeaQuest has created an impressive spread of marine life, and you can get up close and personal with every exhibit. You can experience the fish spa where tiny fish happily feast on the dead skin and bacteria build-up on your feet—this is not for the ticklish among us. You can also feed eager stingrays and tortoises, pet small sharks, hold birds, and more!
If you are looking for a delicious, casual place to eat, Crown Burger is a great option. Home to Grecian décor complete with statues and vine-printed wallpaper and the best fry sauce anywhere, Crown Burger should be the next stop on your quest for the best burger. They offer delicious pastrami burgers piled high with meat and the best cheeseburger I have ever had.
Not in the mood for a burger? How about Italian? Gabor Brother’s Main Street Grill is known for their calzones and their delectable bread sticks. They’ve got pasta, pizza, and enormous calzones that make patrons go wild! Give this little-known Italian place a try if you’re hankering for great Italian food.
A day in Layton should not be wasted! This is a great city with opportunities for fun around every corner. Enjoy the available activities and treat yourself to some delicious food.
